‘I don’t believe it’
For those of us of a certain age we remember fondly Victor Meldrew acting in the sitcom ‘One foot in the grave.’ A recently retired gent passing the time of day picking fault with most things he encountered daily. The story lines were humorous, and no doubt scripted as part of many observations of people’s daily lives. His catch phrase ‘I don’t believe it’ was infectious. Today we can all use the same phrase to cover many degrees of frustration.
In 2017 a film based on a true story was made about a young investigative journalist called Lee Strobel who lived in Chicago. He became so frustrated in 1980 when his wife became a Christian that he made it his personal ambition to disprove Jesus, the resurrection, and the claims of Christianity. His research was so meticulous, talking and travelling to see many scholars on the subject. Unfortunately, even sceptics like himself couldn’t disprove the facts about Jesus’s death and resurrection. A film was made about his journey from Atheism to Christianity, that film is called ‘The case for Christ. ‘Through his investigation he became a Christian and a Pastor, even writing a book with the same title ‘The case for Christ’. For Lee Strobel ‘I don’t believe it’ became ‘I believe.’ Amen

Our church is in a close-knit Rhondda valley community called Gelli. It’s an absolute privilege to be located here and we are keen to build up meaningful relationships with everyone.
